San Ramon Valley can secure a national Top 5 ranking through the holidays with a victory over Carondelet on Thursday in the Tri-Valley Classic.
Both teams, both FAB 50 Top 25 members, reached the title contest after completing their three-game mixer format with 3-0 records.
SRV, currently No. 5, edged Los Lomas, 2-1, and topped Bishop O'Dowd, 2-0. Carondelet handed Ursuline a 1-0 defeat and beat Esperanza, 3-1.
Foothill and Esperanza will place for third place with Monte Vista squaring off against Murietta Valley for fifth.
Texas private school powers Ursuline and Nolan Catholic continued to struggle at the Tri-Valley, and the teams will be competing in Thursday's ninth- and 11th-place contests.
Ursuline came into the Tri-Valley Classic ranked No. 2 in the FAB 50. On Wednesday, following a first-round defeat to fellow Top 25 Monte Vista, Ursuline lost to Carondelet, 1-0, and beat California, 3-0, to earn a spot in the ninth-place match. Nolan Catholic lost to Murietta Valley, 2-1, and Foothill, 3-2.
